1st npt!

Found a cheap Craigslist 5 gal for my Betta and have spent the last couple weeks gathering and ordering ingredients to get it ready for him. I know he'll love it but the problem is- now that I see it all planted I would really like to see shrimp in there... happy shrimp. Not necessarily breeding, but at least content. Is this possible? I feel like he'll always be going after them and the little cuties will be hiding the whole time.

I added more floating plants after these pics were taken, and now I'm worried about everyone planted in the back, it doesn't seem like they have enough light. Also, there's soil down there; should I still put in some root tabs for the crypts? Any advice is greatly appreciated because I've never set up my own tank before, much less with dirt.

I had a betta once that did fine with ghost shrimp. I then moved up to fire red cherry's and he thought it was lunchtime....LOL Some have had success. I did not.

Thank you! I also posted in the shrimp and inverts section, and everyone was very against trying to have them together, it makes sense, that's lunch. I really felt like making it into a shrimp tank instead but I put the betta in for now at least and he does look nice in there. He keeps trying to wriggle into the tiniest spaces he can find so I worry about him but I fixed it up so that he can't trap himself. Goofball.
