Dumb question, willl this work with rimmed tanks?

Depends on the width of your rim. It will fit rims with a 16mm allowance. In our case, ours fit over part of the rim but the screw could not touch base with anything. To accommodate, we had to trim part of the base so the screw would secure on to the lip. So for now, I would say NO unless you you're inclined to make some adjustments.

Here's what we did for our 20 gallon. I have no date on when we will release an official adapter to suit those with rims.
