Here's the deal:

I want to put a CSL 32watt Smartlite over a 5.5 gallon tank. Of course I'm going to use daylight spectrum instead of the 50/50 that it came with. With this much light, I'm going to have to fertilize and add CO2. Now, my water is neutral and soft... and I'm afraid that the CO2 (yeast method) will create huge pH swings, making the water unstable. Can I get away with using Fluorish Excel? Or will the CO2 from yeast be weak enough that I don't have to worry?

I personally don't think you should have that much of a problem however I am far from being an expert. I use a CO2 system with yeast (DIY) and I don't seem to suffer pH Swings. Now I have larger tanks that could be the contributing factor.

Hmmm.... putting the 32 watts over a 10 gallon would be better, wouldn't it?
