So if you guys had a 38 gallon aquarium, which is 36 X 12 X 20, how would you stock it?

Are you sure those are the measurements of a 38 gal? I have a 30 gal with those exact measurements....guess I could be wrong as I bought it off CL.
Anyway, I've stocked mine with neon dwarf rainbows (5), gold barbs (5), otocinclus (4), german blue ram (1), honey sunset gourami (1) and a few cories.

I'm pretty sure that 30 gallon tanks are 30L x 12W x 18H

Small schooling fish in general, maybe a single angelfish depending on the size of the other fish. Cory cats are always popular, maybe a single BN pleco. Also a good size tank for a breeing pair of BN or an established pair of smaller CA or SA cichlids IME.

Those dimensions are definitely 38g... but if I were you keep it simple, main schooling fish, cory school to dwell the bottom, and a single angel or pair of rams for the centerpiece!

I'd hesitate to put anything in a 30 with a pair of cichlids, unless they're small cichlids like rams or apistos and the other fish are small too, like cardinal tetras or harlequin rasboras.

Do you think schooling fish would have more room in a 38 gallon? considering it's 36 inches long? As opposed to a tank that's 30 x 18 x 24?

In my 38 gallon, heavily planted and aquascaped I have:
school of neon tetras (14) school of black neon tetras (14) school of serpae tetras (8) ottocinclus (5) albino bristlenose plecos (1m,1f, 1 juvenile) cory cats (2) I'll be adding a pair of Bolivian Rams once a pair forms from the 6 that are in the quarantine tank. |
