PVC overflow intake cover?

For the intake cover I took a small plastic pot with holes on the bottom, turned it upside down and suction cupped it to the glass over the intake. It seems to be doing a good job keeping my floating plants out of the sump, but I don't want to wake up to a flooded room. Anyone see any problems with this or my system?

edit: forgot to add, also instead of drilling a hole for the in the top for a airline, I just used a long airline hose and sucked the air out that way. There is a pick of it sticking out of the outer stand pipe.

The only thing I would say may or may not be an issue is with this setup you lose the surface skimming ability of the overflow. Possibly you could drill some holes in the side of the pot at the surface to return that ability but once again your floaters would be drawn to those holes. However if small enough they wouldnt get sucked in.

Security Question
While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, John and his friend Sally both spotted a dalmatian inside of a truck with sirens. The animal with John and Sally is a _ _ _?
