Cichlid Tank

Picked up another 90 gallon off of craigslist, just want your guys opinons on what i want to stock.

Tank is currently cycling, should be done in a few days.

6x Electric Yellow Labidochromis
6x Acei Cichlids
3x Upside down Catfish
1x Raphael Catfish
1x Common Pleco
1x Red Tail Shark

All are juveniles so not huge atm.

Think it will work, or if not what kind of issues might i have?

Skip the Common Pleco, unless you already have it. They are any of several species and can grow to a foot to two feet, way too big for your tank.

Raphaels can grow big enough to eat the USD cats.

Are the USD cats the common brown and cream species (S. nigriventris) or are you thinking of stocking the much more aggressive black ones?

I have the pelco in my other 90 gallon he is only 4" long right now

The Rapheal is only 1.5" atm just a baby, so not worried about him eating much

They will not be in the tank much longer then say a year, i will be moving and then building a 300 gallon in my new place.

I dont see any bad issues with aggression with them but if its a 90 gallon standard 4 feet wide might be a space issue. A lot of gallons, but small footprint, and basically all of them will be mainly hanging in the mid level down area. Iffy even for a year.

I'd do the 12 mbuna (assuming you'll be doing adequate water changes, of course), 2-4 synodontus spp. (I think they're calling feather-fin cats), and a BN pleco pair. Redtail shark... cool, but not native to the area. Common pleco.... poop machine.

Yeah probably just leave the common pleco in his tank.

The shark, cool, and going in jsut cause he is an ass to my corys all the time.

I'll go take a look and see if my lfs has feather-fins, if not i bet petsmart dows. ugh i hate that place.

Yeah, 'Smart and 'Co aren't the greatest place for fish, but occasionally you find a good deal on something. With all this in a 90, I'd be doing regular weekly 50-70% water changes. Catfich, plecos, and mbuna are the top poopers in the aquarium world... I'm glad someone else on the forum likes to overstock!

Yeah i plan to do 50% a week

The lfs store here is more of a pond place. They have some stuff and lots of fish, but mostly just huge ones.

They have 2 ponds inside the store itself, and a bridge to go over, something like 100 Koi in them also. Pretty neat but if a fish weighs more then my dog i don't want it.

Yeah, big fish can be a pain. The biggest fish I'll keep is a discus (or a few of them).

alright how about Clown Plecos? Small enough to not be a pain when they are older and big enough to not be eaten.
