Otocinclus

So I finally found the right deal on some Otos. They had been at the store for 2 weeks and were quite healthy. Been waiting for the right ones. I put 5 in my 20L CRS/CBS tank and 5 in a 29 community tank. I have read quite a bit on them and so far they seem to be doing fine. But I was wondering what others have found to be a tolerable nitrate level for them. My shrimp tank is alway near 0 of course but the community tank will always have some. Anyone have experience on what level they can live in and not be affected?

Also any other Oto advice for me or others interested would be great.

i had 6 15 ppm nitrite with good oxygenation for a about 3 days when i started my first tank and i didnt know what was happening

in my 29 gallon they survived 120 ppm for weeks as i was severely overfeeding, and did not have much plant growth

LET ME CLARIFY
6 ottos 15 ppm nitrite 3 das
120 ppm NITRATE for extended periods between weekly water changes

still my tanks sit around 30-40 ppm nitrates with no ill effects.

So 20-30 seems to be ok for them, that's what I was looking for. What do you feed yours?

nothing
they happily eat biofilm and the small crustaceans that are a part of it
haven't lost one to starvation yet

they were a littler fatter when i first started my tank and they had tons of diatoms to munch on, but they've survived a whole year with just biofilm just fine,
on my shrimp tank where there is little need for huge amounts of bio filtration due to low feeding and bio load, plus the shrimp pick everything
the otto's have to pick at some dropped in food sometimes
but not on my higher light tanks

In my community tank there are nerites also, so I may have to supplement, but will try and see how they do.
