ADA Malaya Ammonia
I set up my new tank 3 weeks ago with ADA Malaya and the ammonia level has been at 0.5 since day one. I have read that malaya doesn't leech ammonia for as long as Amazonia and some people have said they have no ammonia with Malaya.
If anyone has had experience with Malaya it would be great to hear your experiences about ammonia levels. Thanks |

.5 isnt bad, let it be. bacteria is growing
amazonia can get into the 4-5 range or higher if ur not careful just keep it at .5 or lower and it'll soon go away make sure ur changing some water weekly, with rapid bacterial growth, they need other nutrients as well, generally supplied by municipal water

I have been doing water changes twice a week. I have an established filter in there from my old tank and at first I had a mini cycle that lasted about 3 days. I will post again when the ammonia stops as a reference for others. It seems there is little info about ammonia and Malaya.

from my understanding, i did not think it contained any!!
if it is a cycled filter make sure the temperature is good, and there is plenty of surface water movement, that will help the baceria process it faster, and colonize the substrate faster as well live plants generally have an abundant supply as well, have you added any yet?

Just an update for anyone who is thinking of using ADA Malaya. After 3 and a half weeks my ammonia is finally reading 0. Im not saying that it will be the same for anyone else but its a possibility it may take a few weeks to stop leeching. Many people say Malaya doesnt leech ammonia or say it only lasts a few days but in my eperience it took a lot longer. Various other factors will affect the time it takes such as temp, plants etc but just be prepared if you buy Malaya that it may leech ammonia for a few weeks.
