since fish cannot see red......and im usually up during the night i was thinking of putting in a red light fixture so i can view the night time activities a bit better....my question is though do the red lights have any adverse effects on the plants themselves?

Cool article. I've never thought about trying this on a freshwater tank. I've done a few small blue incandescent bulbs on my reef tank, though. There is almost more of a diversity of night life on a reef than there is during the daylight!

Hmmm, I have a red LED light and my fish freak out whenever I shine it near the tank.
