what are the best to keep on hand? I had ich and wasn't prepared (not salt, meds etc) When I did go there wasn't a good selection, so I will probably have to get online
what is good to keep for qt tank and other problemsthat might arise

my first suggestion isnt really a med but a food aditive, garlic or a food with high garlic. the garlic will help rid your fish of internal parasites.

next i would say tea tree oil, melafix is the biggest rip of in the world since you can make about 1000 gallons of it for 10$... just mix 1ml with 1L of water, tank water or dechlorinated.

aquarium salts and an ich gaurd is always a good idea.

and i keep Mardel Maracyn-Two on hand almost always.

i guess theres more depending on the stock. IE if you have loachs make sure you are ready for scaleless ick. or if you have a tank with inverts be prepaired with copper free ick treatment. ECT

but thats what i keep on hand any ways

Indian Almond Leaves!

I'd say aquarium salt, maracyns or kanamycin, and prazi

Just keeping your water healthy is the best bet though. let the fish's natural defenses do all your work.

All I've ever kept on hand was clean water, quick cure.
Maybe something may come up where other med's are needed but I don't store them due to possibly short shelf life.

I have 4 tanks running and I keep no meds on hand. As long as you're performing your regular maintenance and you keep your parameters steady, you shouldn't have any health problems. I haven't had fish meds in my house for probably two years and the only death I've had was from a fish jumping out of the tank.

I say save your money. If a problem does come up, then go buy whatever med you need at that time.

i've fed garlic on a regular basis, although as others have said that is not specifically a "medicine" i've been using melafix for new fish and like once a week since some of my shrimp had a bacterial infection. it is essentially tea tree oil, i am sure that almond leaves would be the same idea.
