Have patience - you posted late in the evening and it's just now morning.

It looks like a new tank and the brown stuff looks like diatoms but without more clear photos or information about your tank, it's tough to tell what's going on.

How long has the tank been set up? What are your parameters? Are you using CO2? What's your lighting? Ferts?

Tank is a new one so diatoms would make sense but I thought those just exist on the glass. I'd say 1 and a half months for the tank. Lighting is high. I've got 2 13w cfl 11 inches above the substrate. I've got co2 at 1/2 bps. Installing drop checker today. pH: 6.9, Tds: 270, gh: 8, kh: 4

Diatoms can be everywhere in a tank and that's likely what it is.

A note on CO2: bubbles per second really isn't an accurate measurement. Every CO2 system and tank is different. A better measure is to estimate CO2 saturation with a drop checker (which you'll have once it's installed).

Under diatoms the first pic almost looks exactly what you have.

Removal Can be vacuumed out or wiped of the glass with a soft cloth. Usually disappears after a few weeks when the tank has matured. Otocinclus will eat it.

I had the exact same stuff about a month into my tank.



I did a large water change, removed all of it I could by hand, and started dosing Seachem Excel.

It went away as quick as it apeared, but it was very tenatious while it was there, I've yet to see any since, I assumed new tank woes.

Just takes time; keep your head up and keep fighting.

this only occur in new tanks, it will keep on coming back until the tank becomes stable, you wont see it afterward.
