Anacharis growth question

Ok, my tank is about 3 weeks old. I started with lots of fast growing stem plants, Anacharis being one of them. When I bought a couple bunches at the store, the leaves on the stem were very close together. The stuff grows very fast, and I don't even have any of the original stems in my tank anymore.
Now all the new growths have come in with about an inch apart, and I don’t think the leaves are as broad.
You can see my equipment in my signature, and my last set of water parameters are:

pH 7.0
kH 8 degrees
Ammonia 0
Nitite 0
Nitrate 40 (I know this is high WC tomorrow).
Phosphate .5

I dose Nitrate & phosphate according to my testing (e.g. no Nitrate, .1 or .2 gr phosphate) and I add 4.5 grams of K2SO4 every other day.

Can the growth be caused from the high light, and fast growing?
Any insights would be appreciated.

TIA
Walter

Yup, the plant was grown in different conditions than what it is presented now. As a result, like you said, all the old growth has now died off, and the new growth is the result of the new environment. But I do believe you answered your own question. The different lighting levels seem to have resulted in the leaf size and spacing along the stem. My guess is that your lighting is less than what it was previously in. This is totally expected, and nothing to worry about.

Best of Luck!

The same thing happens to me when I get some anacharis from the LFS. At first the leaves are broader and closer together. They also seam to go more up than out. As soon as I put it in my tank the old stuff stops going and send off side shoots that look as you described. I think it grows this way at the shop because they grow it in an indoor tub/pond.

OK, I just wish it didn't look so stringy. I guess I'll have to bunch up a few.

Just spoke to the guy at the LFS, and he said 4.6 WPG is too much light for these guys.

Well live, learn, and pass on the info.
