another killing duckweed thread

my 50 g has java fern, anubias, water lettuce, and duckweed. THe duckweed is choking out the water lettuce and I want it gone. Normally I just add some powerheads and lots of surface agitation gets rid of it. My current fish would not appreciate that. If I net out most of it, how long would it take to kill it by starving the tank of light? Would the anubias last through it? thanks

Cut the bottom off of a 1 liter soda bottle.
Stuff the bottle with polyester filter material (Pillow filling sold in the walmart craft section for less than two dollars).
Attach the soda bottle to the intake of a powerhead.

Is this to get rid of the duckweed or instructions on making a prefilter?

lol probably not worth the shipping cost. You should be able to find this stuff pretty easily.

To answer his solution, it is like a surface skimmer. You put it on top and it will suck in anything from the surface, catching it in the the bottle stuffed with polyfill. I only answer this as it's the only way I know how to do it. May take a few tries as well, hard to get every little piece.

I netted out the vast majority of it and then just remained vigilant in removing any remants that I found after the fact. I now only have a couple of tanks with it left. Soon to be 0. Yay!!

even though i am vigilant netter, the random one or two keeps multiplying so it becomes more controllable but rarely ever eradicated IME

Yep I had a HUGE Riccia and duckweed problem but after a week worth of netting it's almost all gone, Now if i can only get it out of my moss :s

I've removed it from a 90 just by netting it out.

Just gotta have good eyes

I just netted most of it out and gave the floaters I wanted to keep a dunk in some water to remove any remaining duckweed. I see maybe one or two leaves daily but they are easily removed. It helps to use a turkey baster or pipette to dislodge any duckweed stuck to your other plants.
