Carbonated Water for water changes ?
Now i know most will laugh at this and rightly so.... as im thinking out loud. Im sure i will be bashed at this but hey, somebody has to ask the silly questions right ?
So plants take in C02 which we all know, and fizzy water is only fizzy because of the C02 they add.... see where im going ;-) What if one was to do a 500ml water change in a nano tank every day by using carbonated water ? Could this be an alternative to using chemicals such as Excel and even to take away the clutter inside the tank when we use DIY C02 ? Last edited by stevenjohn21; 02-06-2013 at 06:33 PM.. Amano wrote something in his books about using carbonated water and it worked well for him. It would probably work a little but the co2 would run out from the water after a few hours

Interesting thought, but I think you're also adding Sodium ions. Not exactly sure how that would work in the long term.

I really can't imagine that adding carbonated water would do much more then cause a real short pH dip. the CO2 will come out of solution really quickly, and I can't imagine the sudden pH changes would be good for the inhabitants.
plus, expensive. |

And Amano did quickly switch to injection of CO2 instead

Seltzer is much better in that respect: H2O + CO2 and nothing else.

Nice little excerpt, is that from the book of ADA?

You could try Sodastream for that, I guess. Prepare for an algae farm, however, thanks to fluctuating CO2 levels.
