Tiger Nerite Snail?
I spotted some Tiger Nerite Snails on line and I think the girls would love one in the tank. the stripes are cool. I read that they will not reproduce in a fresh water tank is this true? I don't want a million of them just one. How do you care for them. do you just drop it in and let it do its thing. Not sure if I can find any where we live or not they don't look to be expensive on line but shipping would be more than the snail is. Are they common in Live fish stores?
We do have a bit of an algae problem so it would probably have plenty to eat and I can always get it algae wafer.

I have had a total of 3 nerites for my small tanks. I think you really don't need that many because they just munch through the algae and they will hunt for more. I just drop mine in. If you have water that is deficient in minerals, you will probably need to add some calcium to keep their shells hard. I read somewhere online that you could crush some egg shells and run that in your filter and it'll decompose and release calcium for them into the water. If you end up getting more than one snail and you start seeing all these little white dots, they are trying to reproduce but they need brackish water to do so. I separated mine lol.

We will probably only get one snail its a ten gal tank and I think more than one would be too much for the tank. How is their bio load. Are they going to require me to do more water changes.

You should be doing water changes regardless, but that aside I can't imagine 1 would change your bio load into something unstable.
And no I've never heard of them reproducing, I think you'll be ok with one |

what's the one fish you have?
Also, nerites do not breed but they lay eggs that never hatch, just so ya know. They are great at eating algae and I had like....8 of them in a 10 gallon alongside a ton of fish (which I don't have anymore sadly....stupid power outages). I ran two HOB filters and did water changes weekly though, so that's always a thing (then again, I like weekly water changes...so yah)

I have 3 nerites and they are busy buggers. They do a great job with algae but also love to go under the HC carpet I have. I don't know how many times I had to repatch the HC because the snails get underneath it and start releasing patches all over the place.
So my advice: if anyone is doing a foreground carpet, make sure that carpet is established first. then introduce the nerites or the nerites will constantly uproot your foreground plants as they forage for algae |

It curently just has a betta in it. We are wanting to add some pygmy corys and may be some endlers. we will do more water changes when we add more fish. I though the nerite migh be intresting for the girls to studdy for class and it would help with our algae issue. but I dont want to have to do water changes more than once a week. Because we are away from home some times so I want the tank to be able to go a week if it has too with out causing harm to our fish.
