Thinking about laying off Excel...
Went away for 2 weeks, so my tanks didn't get their usual daily dose of Excel (at recommended dosage). Reduced the lighting to 6 hours a day while I was away.
Tanks look great, and some of the plants I have trouble with (Vals - straight and spiral) seem to have taken of a bit and the new growth doesn't have that 'see through' look. Makes me want to try Amazon Swords again! I don't know if my other stems will suffer from the lack of Excel, maybe a regular dose once a week?

Excel does tend to affect certain plants negatively. I suspect that it affected the vals' cell structure. If your tank has adapted to not use excel and there's no need for it (no algae) perhaps your care regiment got a little bit easier today

If you want to continue dosing Seachems Excel, Metricide 14 is a way cheaper option.

That's actually what I am using (big gallon jug).
"Excel" has turned into "Kleenex" in my head - all tissues are klennex, copiers are xerox, all guterblahblahhyde is excel

Just for the record. Not all copiers are xerox, just the ones that don't work.
