Corydoras vs Shrimp

What is your choice and why? Pros and Cons.

Corys, because they are active, effective at eating spare food, and won't go up my filter! (or get eaten!)

Another vote for cories. I get tired of pulling cherry shrimp out of my hob filter. Plus cories are so much fun to watch when they school around.

what type of corys do you all recomend and how many in a 29g?

Dwarf cories are awesome but hard to find. There are many common good varieties: trillineatus, paelatus, shwartzii, Pandas, etc. I'd do one school of 10 (single species), or 6 of 2 species (12 total).

I myself am fond of sterbai cories. Or Weitzmani cories are cool too. I have 12 sterbai and 4 Ehrhardti cories in my 37 gallon and its fun to watch them all school around together. Whatever you get I agree either 10 of one species or 6 of two different ones. Cories are fun to breed as well. Mine lays eggs like clockwork within two days of a cool water change.

Both. Though if I were forced to choose--it'd be corys. I love my seven sterbai and wouldn't trade them for their weight in gold.

There's seldom a need to choose, though, as there's a species of shrimp--or alternative in tank design--to fit the needs of just about any tank short of one dedicated to large predator fish.

I have both habrosus corys and PFRs in one of my 29 gallon tanks. If I had to choose...well I suppose it would depend on the tank and what else was in it.

I love my cory. More fun to watch, love the babies, love watching them swim in shoals, etc.
My shrimp speckle plants, don't do much and fairly boring...
But, I did love my Bamboo girl dearly. RIP. She was a boring, but adorable thing.

My top favorite corys are Sterbas (already mentioned...their pectoral spines look awesome) and Melinis!

Another vote to cories because they don't become expensive fish food! I enjoy doing Cory rescues from Wal Mart. 4 months ago I bought 3 straggly looking Aeneus and QT'd them. Since then they've bred in my planted tanks and I have had nearly 100 of their spawn I've raised and given to a higher quality fish store. Such a fun species! My favorite, though, are the Sterbai.
