DIY overflow noise?
Anyone know how to quiet this noise or better yet stop it? These are both vids of the same set up what I'm tring to do is stop the bubbling sound and draining sound, I tried to lift the output pipe out of the sumps water that didn't work. I think if I can fix one the other will stop also any help would be greatly apreciated. The second vid is something I did to try n quiet the noise before I posted.

just drill a cap with a hole to regulate the amount of air being sucked down.
+1 durso standpipe

Yes durso will work in an over flow box, this picture is from a reef but you just tailor the standpipe height and pipe size for your application weather saltwater or tropical fish tank. Google durso standpipe and litterally 100s of sights offer DIY's on them.

you might have to fiddle with the hole size. I don't see a cap on your intake pipe, am I missing it?
I did something similar to this. http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson...struction.html

There are some dursos where an air pump is used, you drill a whole and silicone a nipple into it and put an air line on the pipe so there would be no sucking noise at all. I have never built one like this The ones I have made are all like the one in the photo I supplied.

Noise is cause by the drain not being big enough.. Ive finally figured that out by perusing reef forums. The quietest drains are either full siphon or with drains big enough to vent air pressure without sucking air down. A one inch drain can at a maximum handled 300 gph with no bends strainers or reducers, and will actually be pretty quiet on its on. A 1.5 inch drain can handle 750 gph with no noise without bends... Much more space to vent air pressure..
