Glass hood for my 29G?
I just upgrade the old 13W T12 fixture to a Finnex FugeRay 30". HUGE difference. The plants were already growing (slowly) with the old bulb, so I think this will make a huge difference.
One question I have though is a glass hood for my 29G. Are there any alternatives to the Aqueon glass hoods sold at Petsmart? The reviews are that they don't fit very will with the 29Gs, or they leave about 1/2" gap in the back. There are several issues with that, of course, because I dont want the hood to fall in, nor do I want my hatchetfish jumping out. What are some other alternative ways to effectively cover the top while letting lots of light in? Any suggestions are welcome Thanks in advance! |

yes, my aqueon hood leaves about an inch of room at the back,
i personally dont mind it: ![]() but it does come with a plastic strip (albeit ugly) that you can use to cover it up. I couldnt find any other options for a pre-made glass hood besides the aqueon, but you could always go to a local place that cuts glass, and give them the dimensions to cut you out a hood. i would think it wouldnt be very expensive ps. are you running c02 on your tank? |

Thanks for the info! Are the sides ok? Looks like its fine in your photo. I guess I'll pick one up and give it a shot.
No CO2, but just Flourish Excel. Made a huge difference when I was using my T12 bulb...amazingly enough, low light plants like java ferns and various anubias' grew quite considerably after adding 2/3 of the recommended dosage regularly. |

I use the Marineland glass tops on my 29s - they have the clear plastic trim on the back (which I thought was standard on all brands, but I guess not). It fits completely flush on all 4 sides...I bought mine at Petsmart, but they may have been deleted since then. You can get them here instead; (edit to say that the clear plastic on the back is easily cut with scissors to accommodate any equipment)

My impatience got the best of me, I just went to Petsmart and picked up the Aqueon one. Even with the plastic, there is about a quarter inch gap in the back, but nothing serious.
Thanks for the advice! Time to make a separate thread on how my tank(s) are going. |

Yes, I have one on my 29gallon. The problem with the Aqueon is with the plastic strip it's self is short and the glass is fine. So if it bugs you like it did me

since your not running c02, you may run into some algae problems with that light.
if that happens you can use some window screen to dim the light, or just raise the whole fixture. |
