Sudden change in Rainbowfish??
60 gal, heavely planted, low tech, ph7.8. Set up for one year,6 Bosmane Rainbows went in as juvies 5 mos ago. The tank also has 10 cories and a mess of otos. All fish seem fine including eating well execpt for.... The rainbows are suddenly very skittish. They are hiding for the most part. They used to hang out in the open and feed in a frenzy. now when they feed, its under cover or they dart in and out to feed. Not sure what is happening here. They also appear darker in color, probably due to the fact that they are hiding in the plants ( in the dark shade ) any thoughts?

Temperature? My congo tetras much prefer temps over 76*F and they are definitely not happy it is winter and I didn't nudge the heaters up enough for them.
Check nitrate/ammonia/nitrite too in case they seem out of whack.

I kept my boesemani rainbows at 78 to 83... No sluggishness unless it was just after the cool water change.

The tank is heated to 77.5-77.8. Since there are Sterbai in there as well, I could raise the temp a couple of degrees. I just do not get why this would suddenly occur. I do watercanges 2x per week. Auto system with 75 degree water.

My house gets cold in the winter, goes from 60*F at night in the summer down to 50* and the tank heaters cannot keep up. Is there any change like that where your tank is?

Any kids (teenagers) in the house that may be tormenting them ?
My angels did the same and I couldn't figure out why they were scared of me until I got home from work early one day and found my nephew blowing raspberrys on the glass and tormenting the fish !
