Yes, a marimo would do great. I have mine in a vase by the window. Have had it a few years. It's the size of a softball. Is that crypt still in the pot? You may want to take it out, separate it and it will give you more ground cover. Just a thought.

I thought about taking it out but that's regular gravel. What about melt? I have a root tab in the gravel under the crypt now.

No it won't melt as long as you have proper lighting and a root tab like you already have.

Will it hurt the plant if I keep it in the pot. This is my kid's tank so I really don't care about how it looks as long as it's "cute". I might get another potted crypt to put on the other side.

No it won't hurt the plant. Are the roots coming through the pot and into the gravel? Just curious. These guys set out some massive root systems.

I have two softball sized marimo in a plastic bin on the windowsill, they pearl in the afternoon, they don't need much of anything.
