How long cure time for 3/8" to 1/2" thick silicone?

I've just covered the rear two 'clear' silicone seams on my tank with a layer of black silicone to hide them better. Thickest points for the new silicone are probably 3/8" but to be on the safe side I'm gonna say there may be places that are a full 1/2" thick.

What would be the cure time for a 1/2" thick silicone layer before I can safely put water back in and begin the tank again?

A half inch thick is a pretty big glob, 48 hours is probably good though. You should be able to mash on it and tell if the middle part is cured yet or still soft. Personally I like to wait until it stops smelling like silicone, by that I mean the fumy odor.

I've gotten advice to rinse a lot after the silicone cures. First time I've heard this. Is this suggested or necessary?

I like to err on the side of caution, and wait until the smell of acetic acid dissipates completely. This usually takes about a week.
