Light help please
Hi, first time poster long time reader.
I have an empty 30x12x15 (inches) tank with no hood which I have finally decided I would like to turn into a planted tank, this would be my first. After looking through the internet yesterday for ideas on making a hood with lights I stumbled across the idea of using LED outdoor security lights which seem ideal for what I want to do. Today I looked more into the idea which seems to have mixed opinions so would like to know what people think about these lights, and also if someone could answer (or give opinion on) the following 2 questions I have. 1. Is something along the lines of this http://www.amazon.co.uk/OXLUX-Floodl...9408793&sr=1-9 suitable? 2. If so, how many would be needed on a tank my size? Also (assuming more than 1) would it be better to get less higher watt units than more lower watts? Thanks. |

Thanks, I have already read that but am still not sure about how many or which ones would be best over this tank, from what I read I think 2 20w is what will be recommended to me, but would like to hear it off someone who knows what they are talking about before buying.
I have since found both a 10w and 20w, supplied with plugs at the 6000k-6500k mark (which I am pretty sure is where I should be looking, please correct me if I am wrong!) but am hesitant to buy them while unsure of how many and which ones to get. |

However you do it, unless you are copying someone else's successful setup you can't know how well it will work without trying it. There are many similar looking LED lights available, with little performance data on any of them. It would help others if you tried a setup that you think looks good, then reported back here about how it works out.
