Instead of actually doing tank maintence

so i find that more and more instead of actually getting my hands in my tank, i would rather read up on how to care for my tanks, and then do nothing.....man i am getting lazy at the ripe old age of 27

If you go with everything automation then your tank maintenance is reduced to feeding and trimming. Extremely simple.

have you considered your interests may be more academic than practical? meaning you want the knowledge, but arent all that interested in using it?
i read up on tons of species i doubt ill never keep, which i consider to be similar to what you are describing.

but here is what you can do, do the maintenance anyway. work it into a routine and just do it. or dont and take down some tanks. like any hobby you should enjoy it, but this one has ethical concerns about the standard of life of the fish.

don't get me wrong i love my fish, and everything in my tank. i do it anyway, because i want to have to healthy fish, and they deserve good care, but it generally takes me all day. lol, i do enjoy the learning of it all, we will see how i enjoy working part time in a LFS, my first day is sunday.

i love the day after water change, the water is soo clean and everyone looks so happy even the plants.

i don't have the funds automate all 5 tanks, and frankly when i actually get myself going on trimming and re-arranging i love it.

I'm this way with aquascaping. I'll spend weeks researching, sketching, planning equipment lists, finding sources for specific plants or hardscape pieces, more sketching, even draw up exact steps for how I'll do the proposed change--and then 9 times out of ten, it all gets dumped in the trash and my tank stays exactly the same.
