How do I ship shrimp!!
I am wanting to know how everyone is safely shipping their shrimp. I am planning on using the 7x7x6 priority shipping boxes, all sides and top and bottom lined with starfoam. I am going to use the breather bags with some java moss in them for the shrimp. How do I keep the temperature up when shipping them? Heat pack? I am not sure how to do the heat pack and will it get too warm in the small box cause I read they can get up to 115 degrees!! Please help me I live in ohio and it gets pretty cold here and I have a lot of shrimp that need shipped!!

Just wrap the heat pack in newspaper or put it in a paper lunch bag. Don't use the cheap 8 hour heat packs, only use the ones meant for shipping. They come in 40 and 72 hour they get warm and not super hot you don't want them in direct contact with the bag.

You can also put a thinner piece of foam between the heat pack and the bag.

so if I go with the 72 hour ones they wont heat the shrimp up too hot? It will be in a 7x7x6 box lined with starfoam.

I styro line all sides top and bottom. I never use heat packs and depending on the amount of shrimp and size medium flat rate is biggest I use. I have heard stories of shrimp being in the mail for 20 days in winter and being good. I just let buyers know to have them held at the post office. So less time in the waether. I order all kinds of smaller ones online from the USPS site and ship in those. You can get priority tape there lables and boxes for free

Would I have to put holes in the divider starfoam for the heat to get to the bag?

You can also use newspaper, wrap the heat pack, tape to the top styro lid on the box and put newspaper between that and that big. Best thing is to ship in a box where you have the ability to put a small piece of styro in between the heat pack and the shrimp bag, heat pack still wrapped in newspaper.

I experimented with no heat pack today and just star-foam lined box with newspaper and star-foam peanuts and a bag of water and the temp dropped to below 50 in 2 hours.

I can do a divider of star-foam in the box I have the room but do I have to put holes in the star-foam to let the heat get to the shrimp bag or no?

I received a shipment of opae ula from Texas recently. They were in a breather bag which was very tightly packed in at least 20 sheets of newspaper, each expertly wrapped and folded layer upon layer around the bag, then all that stuffed inside one solid piece of fluffy pink fiberglass insulation.
The box was so tightly filled that it bulged. Every single one of the shrimp, including a berried female and numerous larva survived the trip without a heat pack.

About 2 1/2 days from Texas to Washington state. Do ship early in the week.
Seller always ships on Mondays, unless it's a holiday, like tomorrow.

Hi Shrimpfreak
If I were you I wouldn't ship this week and wait until next week since were going to be in single digits and teens all week. Thick insulation is better to use than styrofoam boxes in my opinion .I would definitely use a heat pack during most of the winter.
