SAE aggression
So I have two large angelfish and 1 SAE in a 37 gallon tank 30"L 12"D 22"H. I had originally 3 SAE but two seemed to jump out and didn't find them for a couple hours after they were dead.
My SAE is chasing my angels all around the tank, from 1 side to the other. Do SAE need to be in small groups, so they don't pester other fish? SAE is about 4.5inchs long I'm thinking. This little guy is being a pest and I'm just worried about the angels. |

Are you sure you have a true SAE? The description makes me think it might not be. If you can, snap a picture and post it.

yup... its a true SAE... this is pretty normal once they start to get large. They become aggressive, especially over food.
I would just remove him all together and if you are worried algae algae, get otos

Really get rid of him? I'm kinda attached to the little guy. Plus I hate my LFS, the owner was rude to me once so I really have no where to put em.

they can get up to 5-6 inches in size. They will stop eating algae as they know they will get fed when you feed other fish. It definitely is unfortunate that they do get aggressive, but its the nature of the fish.. The only other way around may be to get another one. They tend to pick at each other

They are mean fish all of them. I have kept flying fox, CAE , and true SAE. All were mean they are not peaceful fish. With it without same tank mates these are all bossy fish.
Keep him for as long as you can. Keeping them with others of there own kind could help for sure. They are social fish.

i have two true SAE in my 75 gallon semi aggressive community tank and they just keep to themselves eating algae all day. They dont bug ghost shrimp even. I have never seen aggression in them and i have had them in several tanks for years. Maybe just got a bad egg so to speak . Very useful fish

Well it seems the bullied became the bully. I got rid of my SAE and now 1 of my angels is very aggressive to the other one. They have never shown any aggression since I've had them (3-4 years).
One angel will be in the corner, the other on the opposite side. All of a sudden the aggressive one will swim fast right after the angel in the corner. I guess a tank has to always have an alpha ha. |
