A Couple New Bettas
I took these pictures to show my family, but I thought I'd share here as well. Eventually I plan to temporarily drop them into "photography" tanks to get some more professional-looking photos.
The bettas currently reside in a divided 5.5g with silk plants, PVC "caves", and dwarf water lettuce floaters. I've got two other similarly-sized tanks growing out for their permanent homes, and they will be getting re-homed shortly. Bettas were purchased from The Betta Shop in Minnesota (mnbettashop.com). They were fantastic to deal with. The black-copper CT has terrific coloration in person. You lose the iridescence in the pictures. The opaque HMPK is also quite stunning to my mind, in a more minimal sort of way. He is an excellent swimmer and very energetic. I am anxious to get him into a larger space. These were taken with an old Nikon D40 and the 18-50mm kit lens, nothing special. I may be getting some better camera equipment soon... we'll see. ---------------------------- Coming to the glass to watch me. So much personality! ![]() ![]() Inspecting a water drop. ![]()

That white fellow is amazing! If I were you, I think I'd put him in kind of a temple-ruins themed tank. I don't know why, but the mental image just seems to fit really well.
I bet the black fellow would look stunning in just an average planted tank, although if it was me, I'd seal an animal skull of some kind and put it in there! |

So that MNbettashop ships? How are their shipping charges?

Shipping is pretty standard - express or priority, but no DOA guarantee for priority. I paid for express with a heat pack. Tony did mention that when they have really cold temps in MN (which happens alot) they cannot ship till it warms up into the 30s/40s.
The shipping is not any more then you'd pay for transhipping one off Aquabid. But AB ends up being significantly more expensive due to the price of the bettas on there and the extra fees for importing and shipping from Thailand.

WOW They are both gorgeous. I am really considering dividing my 10g tank so I can have a black and a white betta.

Thanks! I am enjoying them so far. They remind me a bit of a male apistogramma I owned, but less shy.

Wow...so I should check out this bettashop then, it sounds good. I use to order bettas from AB but all of the shipping/transhipping fees and then the risk of a long travel across seas....I just got tired of all the potential pitfalls and having to pay a hefty price for all AB purchases. It was quite stressful whenever I had shipped a betta from thailand.
