1gal. Jar planted. Tips and Critiques welcome!
No big plans for this, just trying my hand at a small-size aquarium. Feel free to comment and offer tips, critiques and suggestions, all welcome. Thank you in advanced.
Jar capacity = 1gal. (Goodwill find, $1.00) Substrate: AZOO dark Regular gravel (a sprinkle) Plants: Crypt Willisii (there are some floaters there that I will re-plant) Anubias (gold) (still potted, waiting on a nice piece of DW to find) Java fern Hardscape: Ryuoh stone Lighting: Clamp fixture from Lowe's 9w bulb @ 5000k Distance from bulb to substrate (est.) 8" - 8.5" Starting off with 7 - 8 hrs/day Added 4 drops of MicrōBacter7 and dropped some flakes in there and that's about all the additives I will be adding. I saw a small snail somewhere in there, not sure if it's alive or not. Last edited by deadfrog; 01-17-2013 at 09:27 PM.. Reason: image flipped |

It looks like the plants could be a bit too big for your jar. It might be cool to find a branch of wood that could rise out of the jar and attach the anubias so that it's half in and half our of the water. Then try making a contrast between the larger plants, and maybe some type of mini moss in the foreground, and attached to the wood

Thank you for the comments. I agree with you on the size, coincidentally after looking at the jar after set up I realized the same. I plan to move the java fern to my 10gal.
Also, the size of the plants is amplified by the curve of the glass, so that crypt you see is actually not that large...but it does seem crowded nonetheless. |

If you don't have a smaller crypt to start with, let this one get established, then, once you see some new growth started, prune off all the large leaves. Without a lot of supplemental fertilization, the new growth is typically smaller and grows much more slowly and will be easier to keep in synch with the size of the vase.

Thank you for the advice. I will keep that in mind as I start to see new growth.
