Well, I have a well established foreground bed of glosso in my 75gallon. I have a couple questions, though.

1) Now that it has filled in, the height from substrate to top of the glosso is about 2" in many areas. Once it filled in and there were no more spots to expand horizontally, it seems to be growing upwards. I doesn't send actual runners vertically, but the stems are getting longer and acquiring multiple sets of leaves. Is this normal?

2) Odd that the height of the gloss varies...I have 'ribbons' of glosso that are under 0.5 " and other 'ribbons' that reach 2". The whole foreground is equally filled in horizontally. Any ideas?

<sound of hand slapping forehead>

Well, time to play a little Sherlock Holmes. Here were the changes I noticed in my aquarium the last month:

1) Glosso height increasing
2) Much less pearling
3) Alternathi Reinicki (sp?) was losing color and bottom leaves
4) Surface Scum on surface of water

Well, I happened to be up in the room Saturday morning when the lights came on. Usually 2 of the four come on before the other set. I saw the first 2 come on and waited for the second two....and waited.

You guessed it, through some bulb switching, I found out that two of my bulbs were burnt out!

Replaced the bulbs and #2 and #4 above have been rectified and I trimmed #3 and replanted. I did give some of my glosso a 'haircut' and will see how it responds.

I did ask this one other time but just want a verification:

My glosso has grown over itself many times, so that the leaves of the lowest runners are yellow (Can only see well up next to glass. Am I actually supposed to thin it out by pulling out runners? Tough to do without pulling it all up.

Well, a mystery solved, though it seems obvious to me now.
