Hi there speakeasy, welcome to the Planted Tank!

This depends a little on what kind of filter media you use. Will you tell us?

BTW your CAPSLOCK key seems to be stuck.

First of all, what kind of media are you using? The type of media you use will determine what stays, and what goes. If you are using any kind of charcoal or activated carbon, now would be a good time to get rid of it since they have been known to remove nutrients from the water that plants need.

When I cleaned out my 2026, I replaced the fine white sponge, and simply cleaned and reused the coarse blue one. I have a bunch of bio rings in my baskets which I did not replace as well because that would disrupt my colony of beneficial bacteria residing in my filter.
