35 gal hex tank light help


so i just got a 35 gal hex with 2 canister filters on craigslist for 100 bucks, not sure what kinda light i should get though, def need some input on that. i wanna be in the low-med range. was thinking a 10'' dome luight with a 50 watt cfl in it in the center and half a tall piece of drift wood with fern growing on it or somehing, otherwise idk what to do for lighting it has a 15watt t5 in it right now dim as hell too.

I think a 35-40 watt CFL bulb in one of those 10" dome reflectors would give you around 40 micromols of PAR. With a 50 watt bulb you would probably need to suspend the light a few inches above the top of the tank, a good idea for better spread of the lighting.

hoppy im glad to see atleast u gave some insight as u are afterall the lighting guru, my question bout the dome light is the tank is 2ft wide the 10 inch dome u think gonna be enough and how high u think i ned to raise it above the water?

Any updates on the lighting choice here? I've got a 35 hex that I am looking for lighting recommendations too.
