Mini ramshorn breeding/eggs?

Ok, if it hadn't been for recent threads about mini ramshorns, I'd have no idea what I saw tonight.

I'm curious where they lay their eggs, because I think that most ramshorns lay above the waterline, and the minramshorn I saw can't have come from that.

The tl;dr is that I finally started a 10 gallon quarantine tank and I after about two week I saw a miniramshorn in it that I had no idea existed in my tanks. I'm trying to figure out how that could happen.

I have four tanks (two connected) counting the new quarantine tank. There's a 55 gallon containing a red eared slider turtle and black neon tetras. It's connected via an overflow to another 55 gallon sump/refugium that houses neon tetras, RCS, lots of plants and some snails.

The plants in the refugium are from Petco tubes, ebay orders and an RAOK of floaters from here. No new plants in over 6 months and I've seen no mini ramshorns there. I did add MTS over a year ago. When they got out of hand, I added assassins. The assassins have pretty much wiped out the MTS. I'll occasionally see a miniscule baby MTS on the glass, but that's it.

I will also occasionally see the neons taste one of those babies and spit it out. Now I wonder if that is because they have also been eating mini-ramshorns.

So, there's the two 55 gallons (turtle + refugium). I also have a 20 gallon that has bamboo shrimp, mollies, serpae tetra and plants. The plants came from the refugium, microswords from Petsmart and dwarf hairgrass from Petco gel packs.

When I set up the 10 gallon a few weeks ago, I pulled a sponge filter from the 20 gallon, some hygrophilia from the refugium and some substrate from both to sprinkle on top of the new substrate in the 10.

I also grabbed some of the baby MTS (I thought) on the glass of the refugium. My thought is to start breeding MTS here to feed to the assassins. I'd say I got 6, the largest of which was less than 2mm in length.

Tonight, I saw a mini-ramshorn on the glass in the new quarantine tank. I've never seen one in any tanks. This quarantine tank has plants from the refugium, a sponge filter from the 20 gallon, substrate from both, and tiny snails on the glass from the refugium.

My guess is that I have mini ramshorn in the refugium, but the assassins have kept them in such check that I never realized it. I'm trying to figure out if I transported it to the quarantine as eggs on the plants, something in the substrate or if one of the miniscule MTS I saw on the glass and transferred was actually a miniscule mini ramshorn.

My bigger question is about mini-ramshorn breeding. I have been able to find online that they lay eggs, but not whether those eggs are above the water line or below. Are they hermaphroditic or male/female? Anyone have a good link on their lifecycle?

only snails that lay eggs above the water line are mystery snails/apple snails. pond, ramshorn and mini ramshonr lay in the water and on just about anything

Thanks. I'm going to bet I transferred them on the plants and that the assassins and fish were keeping them in such check I never knew.

Now I'll have two. Kinds of fast breeding snails to feed the assassins!
