What is this?

This shrimp doesn't move much. It's the only one that has this thing.

I was dumb for putting it in a white bowl to take a picture. He is a little milky at least not as clear as the other shrimp.



It's doesn't look like a parasite or anything. It seems to be under the outer shell. Maybe. I have no idea :/

I have observed the cloudness in my snowball shrimps, and it died a week or two after. And the thing in the head is likely a parasite but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure someone will post a reference soon for that.

no that's it thing! it doesn't seem organic at all. to me it feels like a scar or something but i don't know if shrimps get that :/

Looks to me like something leaking from under it's carapace. Is odd. Has it been injured?

I would get rid of the shrimp, especially if it's not acting normal and could have a parasite.

I'm a strong advocate for shrimp life regardless of the shrimps condition.

But I would tend to agree with Ben on that one.

Just make sure you do proper observing before you euthanize. If it lives past two weeks, maybe it is fine. It really just looks like a ruptured blood vessel.

I don't think it would be a ruptured blood vessel since shrimp have an open circulatory system. (like insects) that opens into the body cavity so that all the organs are bathed in blood. Plus, to my knowledge, their blood is clear.

See I didn't know this exactly, but using common sense, it makes perfect sense. I just don't know what it could be 0.o

Looks like a grasshopper leg. One time my cat ate one and had its leg stuck in its throat. Boy was it an ordeal to get it out.

In all seriousness it doesn't look like a parasite...it could just be a birth defect.

Very hard to figure out from the pic, but I would lean toward parasite and quarantine the shrimp. Definitely not a broken blood vessel. It looks like some sort of foreign body to me. If you are going to just get rid of it, I would be interested in dissecting it under a stereoscope and trying to see what it is. PM me know if you want me to give it a shot.
