Psybuster's 29 Gallon Tank
Just recently got into the Aquarium Craze, this is my first ever tank.
My setup: 29 Gallon Tank Kit 100 watt flurescent light Rena Filstar XP2 HOB 30 Gallon Filter CO2 System 30 LB Red Flourite Cheapie Blue Substrate Week 1: ![]() Week 2: ![]() Week 3: ![]() Current: There is 7 Koi in there right now. I understand it's overcrowded, but they seem to be doing fine. I will be putting them in our backyard pond in the future. As of now I'm still trying to figure out everything and experience more stuff as time goes by. ![]()

2 suggestions.
I see you have the Hagen CO2 kit. Don't use the packages they give you, just use your own yeast and baking soda. It works much better. Also, put the tubing on the lowest possible notch on your CO2 ladder. Also, your koi may seem to be doing fine, but you are woefully stunting them. If at all possible, put them in your pond right now, or as soon as possible. If you wait till they grow even larger, your fish will be stunted to the point of ugliness, and to the point where health problems may come into play. Good luck!

I'd agree with Thanks to move your koi as soon as possible. You can already see signs of stunting: the yamabuki ogon in the last picture has the wrong body shape for a fingerling. The purachina ogon, the orange showa, and the orange kohaku all have weird head shapes. In addition to stunting, the even more immediate danger is water quality. Unless you're doing daily water changes, your water paramaters can't be good. You can even see the progression of cloudiness from week 2 to week 4. Even if they look fine, the presence of ammonia will permanantly damage the kois' gills. I once attempted to keep a koi in a 30 gallon. The results weren't pretty, and the work involved... Other than that, the tank looks great! |
