Fluval spec 19l planted tank newbie
Hi guys
I have been reading this forum for quite sometime now. I have finally got a tank (small because I have limited space) its a Fluval spec 19l. I have also got bog wood, substrate and a co2 system. I would love to focus on compact ground cover and small plants or moss on and around the bog wood. Shrimps and/or small fish will be great too. I'm open to any tips or suggestions. I'll also attempt photos tomorrow for layout etc.. John |

Possible wood layout, any thoughts?
![]() Or ![]() Also. The tank is directly under a roof window, will this cause a problem with too much light? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

I have the same tank. I like your layout's use of vertical space. I think it'll make a great addition to the tank and add some depth once you get the fish in there.
My only issue (and it was one that I too faced), is leaving enough floor space for your scavengers. Whether its shrimp, or pigmy cories (in my case), I think it may be worthwhile leaving as small of a footprint as possible with respect to the driftwood. As such, I think the second, shorter piece should go. |

Thanks for the reply STS_100. I agree with your comment regarding bogwood footprint, I think I will keep both pieces of wood but half bury the lower piece in substrate to create a raised area helping with the floor space etc.. I'll add the substrate tonight and take a few pics

More spec/kit being used:
Heater: Fluval compact aquarium heater (To go inside the filter area) CO2: AquaGro CO2 Pro set Soil: Tetraplant Complete Substrate (2cm layer on base of tank) Substrate: Fluval Stratum for shrimp (layer on top of Tetraplant substrate) Lighting: Stock light for now, will look into upgrading the lighting Ground cover plants: Hemianthus Callitrichoides 'Cuba' Bog wood plants: Star Moss, Spiky Moss In mates: Possibly starting with Shrimp Think thats all for now guys, Starting to play with layout. Any thoughts and suggestions? |
