i would love to see what they look like under a microscope. if you dont have one, i would really suggest you get one. i have been taking a closer look at my shrimp lately and can see their chromatophores. the shrimp look different from each other based on characteristics of the pigment in their skin. for instance, some dark red ones have very large chromatophores while others have chromatophores with many many fine "branches".

some have few chromatophores with thin branches. those are the ones that dont look as colorful. others that dont look so good have too many yellow chromatophores in comparison to the red chromatophores.

its for this reason that i think a microscope could be very useful for breeding shrimp. you dont have to kill them too look at them, just put them in a petri dish and take a look at them.

i have some green amanos that have a lot of blue and yellow pigments. they also have red chromatophores that are similar to the cherry shrimp. the darker the green, the more red pigments they have. they probably already have all the genetics needed to breed any color, its just a matter of getting some of them to mutate out so we see what we want.

for green shrimp, i would guess that there is a combination of yellow and blue chromatophores. it would be interesting to know their characteristics.
