Question about my water for CRS/CBS

Hi all,

I do have the SSS adults in both shrimps. My current water levels:

GH: 5
KH: 0
Ph: 6.6
Temp: 70
TDS: 115

My CRS/CBS got new babies last week, and few 2-3 of female still berried. My question is, are those level water is ok? I am concern about TDS, do I need to raise the TDS ? if so to which level? I just did WC, took out about 30% water and filled back in with RO water, so the 115 is current what I have now. Before was like 150-157.

thanks

New babies? Berried shrimps? whatever you're doing, you're doing right. Don't fix it if it ain't broke I would say. lol.

Grats, I would just leave it the way you have if you have success doing it. Remember most params are "guidelines" but if you find something that works, then go with it.

I raise my OEBT in 250-300 TDS water, according to params its a bit high, but hey it works!

Default Question about my water for CRS/CBS

Mine are in 6.2 water with 150 TDS and they all look superb. Just got them a few days ago.

Riot is right, don't mess with things unless you see a bad molt.

After the wc last nite, i let the water calm for 2 hrs and tested the tds again, it went back to 120ppm, which i think that range is ok. The only different is this time i use 30% of RO water, instead of tap water which i saved over many days.. Will see how's goes... But hey the CRS/CBS is my first experience too... Hehe

I also forgot mention, i didnt add anything in RO water, so the tds was 95, and then i took out about 1 gallon water to bucket and mix 1/3 tsp of Seachem Equilibrium.. So it bring up 120ppm tds. Prior even i use tap water, i still add small amount Seachem Equilibrium but the level tds is around 130-150

The new babies are about 1 week old.

The only thing I am concern is my CRS/CBS some of them losing their white color, maybe the food prior isnt good enough? I bought on here.. But last night i went buy Mega One - Veggie Round no contain copper.. Let see if that help.. Any thought about this?

"i didnt add anything in RO water, so the tds was 95"

Your RO water TDS was 95?

Yes, first i didnt add anything in RO water .. So i just filled into the tank for 30% wc then I teste water right away from the tank. The result was 95 tds, then I took out 1 gallon mix with 1/3 tsp small amount Seachem Equilibrium .. Put that 1 gallon back into tank .. Tested 2nd time at 115 tds. Then wait 2 more hrs for water calm, i tested again for 3rd time at 120tds

before i always use my saved tap water for shrimp, not RO water.. But this is my first time wc with 30% ro water

My RO water without add anything .. The tds level is 0

When I said my crs, cbs some are losing white color this happen for over weeks already not just new happen

I've never used Seachem Equilibrium before but from my experience, the type of mineral additive you use makes a huge difference. Use what's tried and proven for shrimp and ditch all others. I've been using Nutrafin Cichlid conditioner for a while now with great results. Other folks who i've reccommended this product to have also had good results. Hard part is finding some but there are still stock out there. The product is discontinued.

Some of these mineral additives contain lots of other elements that aren't exactly good for shrimp so do chose wisely. There's numorous other products that are shrimp specific that will work well too.

I keep my CRS at around 180-220 TDS. they are solid red and white all the time.

Thanks for the suggestion, maybe that is an issue for some of my shrimp losing their white... I will try other GH/mineral proven brand

By the way, if i use tap water.. I do use prime conditioner ...does that make any difference?

Depends on your tap. I use tap with my CBS, but my tap is TDS 33 (snow melt). My understanding is up in Portland your tap should be pretty soft too, but checking it regularly before use is a good idea.

I too use the MOSURA Mineral Plus Ultra. Can't really say if its good or not yet but it does keep TDS while gH is increased. I have a gH of about 4.5/5 and its only 120 TDS. Not sure if thats a good thing or not

I use Salty Bee gH+. Cheap and goes a long way. I was going through too much Mosura, with multiple tanks, it add's up quick and I noticed it wasn't consistent from bottle to bottle. Whatever works though for some, doesn't for others.
