Potassium mono phosphate (powder)

Mono potassium phosphate is available online from aquariumfertilizer.com @ $7 per pound. They are a reliable seller that has been providing fertilizer to planted aquarium hobbyists for many, many years.

That is probably what I meant thank you both! I'm going to be using it along with potassium nitrate and searches equilibrium to fertilize my near future tank

Seachem Equilibrium? It is a GH booster. Both websites also offer a more economical version of the same thing.

Equilibrium isn't baking soda based as it doesn't contain sodium bicarb and it doesn't affect KH.

So "GH booster" will do the exact same thing as seachem equilibrium? Idk my GH currently but I know my KH is 180 as well as a PH of 7.8 but I'm still trying to figure out whether to use my water or use RO water. Most of the fish at my LFS are acclimated to 7.8

If the ingredients are the same there should be no difference.

Hi Colorblizzle,

When Tom Barr did a talk for GSAS in Seattle a couple of years ago I asked about dKH and dGH parameters. He indicated that for plants he didn't worry about dKH and targeted about 5.0 dGH.

Not all GH boosters are created equal; most of the good ones offered are:
50% K2SO4
25% Gypsum (CaSO4
25% Epsom Salts (MGSO4)

I use Seachem Equilibrium. Why? Because it contains iron and manganese that are not found in most GH Boosters. Also, avoid GH boosters that use Sodium Chloride.

Ok so I'm getting conflicting answers here GH booster is just as good as equilibrium for the nutrients they both have BUT equilibrium also has iron but the booster doesn't? I will have a few red plants doni think the iron is a must

Hi Colorbizzle,

You are correct, Equilibrium has what GH Booster has plus add'l. Iron is certainly a nutrient needed by plants but whether it helps bring out the 'reds' in our plants is questionable; light intensity seems to have more effect on the degree of red in my plants than my iron dosing.

Here's what I've learned so far the more light the more co2 is needed. The point if a low-tech tank is to not need co2 injection right? I originally looked at a dual t5 light which would give me 34w not sure how many lumens since I was looking online and it wasn't listed but for this setup it seemed better to opt for the single t8 fixture offering 15w. Now what is the intensity exactly? Is that the lumens or the color spectrum? Also even tho my LFS acclimated all there fish to the local PH as far as the health of the plants is concerned should I use my water or RO water? And if I go with RO water what do I need to add back to it or is the equilibrium mono potassium and potassium nitrate good enough?
