What Medications Do You Keep on Hand?

What medications do you keep on hand?

I've had API Furan 2, QuIck Cure, API Salt, and Seachem Focus.

I've learned that being quick to identify and treat makes all the difference in the survival of my fish. I live in a big city, not near a pet store (our closest Petco has no antibiotics, lol) and I either have to rent a car to get to one or order online - Neither of which is conducive to treating quickly.

I imagine the most common ailments are:

1. Parasites
2. Gram positive/negative bacteria
3. Medicated food for internal parasites/infections

Let me know what you use.

I keep API salt, Maracyn 1, Maracyn 2, Melafix and Paraguard thus far.

Nothing apart from kitchen salt I suppose. I don't remember the last time I experienced any infestation in my tank, hopefully it will continue that way.

Thanks, I'll take a look at Maracyn - I used that with my previous tank.

That's amazing luck! I keep the salt on hand - though haven't had to use it recently.

(imo) more important than the medicine cabinet is how you handle receiving new additions.

Until now every critter problem I've dealt with could be stopped before it entered the tank by establishing a sound entry quarantine program. (and then using it)

I keep metronidazole, quick cure and salt but I really think I should add to what I keep on hand. A lot of things aren't easily found locally so I should really make a precautionary online order.

Yup, to the time it takes to order the meds and have them delivered can make all the difference

good point - I live in a small space so keeping one running all the time is not possible.

I QT all my fish but what happens if your QT fish needs one of those meds you don't have on hand? I realize its better to have 1 sick as opposed to a whole tank but I want to be prepared to help QT fish too.

Yup

I have found buying from a reputable source makes a huge difference - not risking chain pet store fish again. They cost more when you lose more expensive fish to the illness they bring and it's not worth it.
