Planted CRS Tank..
I always had a dream of keeping Crystal Red Shrimp since sometime but the complexity of keeping them always scared me. After reading many articles the confidence really grew and finally I convinced myself that I am ready. I have been keeping RCS for a while and have successfully bred them from 5 to 100+
( if I can keep this legacy with CRS then MAN I AM RICH!) Built a 1sqft tank. ![]() For filter I decided to make a in-tank sump filter. Reason : I have noticed when I used hang-on filter no matter how well I cover the inlet of the filter the shrimp babies do find their way into the filter and surprisingly they were alive ! cant risk this with CRS. So with this type of filter if the shrimp jump the other side, it will fall on the layers of sponge. Other reason was to have ample of filter media for good bacteria colony and 300lph return pump for extra efficient filtration. ![]() ![]() And the tank after planting. ![]() ![]() The Day.. The shrimps have arrived. ![]() ![]() Thanks for reading..

you forgot to floss up that overflow grid. shrimp are going to start winding up in the back boxes (and if not adults then juvies and babies) and you definitely don't want that. block the overflow well somehow.

Aside from the lack of a sponge behind the inflow (as Newman pointed out) my only real concern for your success is temperature. Do you have chiller for them? Or does it not get as hot in Bangalore as I think it does?

This is beautiful. Nice build. Very simple but very, very elegant.

yes temps are very important. CRS will hate you if you have their tank temps anywhere near 80F. dont let it get near that even in summer. you will experience less successful breeding and survival. keep them at 70-73F. don't even go over 75F to keep them safe...

Thanks guys.

Temperature is pretty cool in Bangalore compared to other southern parts of India. The temperature of my other tanks remains between 62-70F throughout the season, so I think that shouldn't be an issue.
