Adding Substrate

I was wondering if I can add more Eco complete to my 40b.
Do I have to take out the fish and do it?
I have a 10g with eco in it and actually I could have added more to my
40b it's only got an inch or so up front.

Eco complete is new or used? If new rinse and you are good to go with out taking out fish but I would suggest you to do water change once added in tank, If it is used you have to wash multiple time and add in tank and do water change... no need to take fish out.

+1 the concern with used is the threat of leeching anything unknown back into the water column. As it likely harboured detris for however and wherever it was, its better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks guys, I only had one blue gourami in that tank for a few weeks. I put him in there for Q because he got into a fight with the other BG. So no real bad stuff in that tank. I'll just wash it all off today and use it after a cleaning. thanks again

I just added another bag of eco complete to my tank to cover the stratum and aid in keeping plants down. I took two buckets of water dumped the bag in to one then grabbed handfuls rinsed in the other bucket then added to tank... tank stayed crystal clear and I added almost the whole bag.
