How much DIY CO2 for a 29 Gallon?

I have a 29 Gallon tank and am running 1 2 liter bottle of sugar and yeast into a glass diffuser into my tank. It runs out about every 2 weeks. I don't yet have the tools to check the CO2 concentration, but as my plants are not pearling, I suspect my levels are low. I have a moderately planted tank.

Would you suggest a second bottle? Is that too much for a 29 Gallon?

If you're going to run a second bottle, I'd spend the few bucks on a drop checker to monitor the CO2 level. Also you don't want to off any livestock with too much gas. But in general a second bottle shouldn't be too much for a tank that size. You may want to start with a 1 liter bottle addition first and see how that goes. It won't last any longer than about 2 weeks however, you will still need to make a new batch at roughly the same interval.

I had two 2 liter bottles running on a 20gallon. Never had a problem with a yellow drop checker or gasping fish. I would stagger the bottles so that I was only changing one every two weeks.

Then I got tired of it and built a pressurized system.
