Pressurized Co2 Tanks (Need Info)
Hello there.
I was wondering if anyone in NYC owns pressurized co2 tanks for their planted aquariums. I'm getting tired (and broke) of the DIY Co2 method and would like to go pressurized. I Don't know of any place where I can buy one and get it refilled. If someone can provide some info on this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Lissette ![]() P.S. I'm looking for a 5lb tank for my 29 gal. |

I bought a brand new aluminum 10 pound tank on Ebay for about ~$90 or so.
I had it filled at the local welding supply house for about $15. The Fire extinguisher place could also fill it up for about the same $ It really is the only way to fly.

You can go to any welding store and buy a 5lb for 75 bucks or so. Then when you run out, you just trade it in for a filled one. THere is no "refilling" involved. I would call local welding supply stores to see what they have.

Thanks JB.
I already called one place and they want to charge me $50.00 everytime I need a tank refilled, plus extra for having the tank and then, of course, tax. You hear other people saying that they refill for about $10 to $15. Now that's cheap. However, I like the idea of no refills, so I'll keep checking. Lissette P.S. One more question, once you buy the tank, do you have to pay a fee everytime you exchange it when the co2 runs out? Thanks a lot. |

It kind of works like this. You never really own the tank. You buy it for say $75, then when you run out you exchange it for a full tank. Then they refill your old one and it goes to the next person.
For me $73 to "buy" the tank. $10 to exchange for a full one. That is it. jB

Hello,
I finally found a place where I can buy a 5# cylinder, and have it refilled. The only thing that I had to buy seperately was the regulator. They don't carry the regulators needed for a planted tank. The place is called Awisco. It's located in Maspeth, Queens. A guy named Frank helped me out with my order. You can give him a call at 718-786-7788. He sold me a used 5# tank (in great condition), and he also has some knowledge regarding planted tanks, so he'll not be confused when you tell him what it's for. Here's a picture of mine. [/IMG]

The place I and a few others goto in NJ charges around $20 for a refill..well, tank swap. And you put a largish ($90 or so) deposit on the tank and just bring it in and swap it.
