+1 on the overstocked comment.
Sorry if you might think of this as haughty or overbearing, but I find that the less overstocked a tank is (especially if we're talking about cichlids), the better the plants respond.
Sometimes having a good planted tank is all about finding a balance, and your livestock is definitely part of the checklist.

I appreciate the feedback guys, the pair of melon discus in the first pic are gone, the 3 that are there are small, about an inch diameter.
The tetras are about 1.5cm and all the plecos are less than 2".
I have experience with monster fish tanks so stocking is something I keep an eye on, if the fish are stressing (by any sign) decrease stock. The majority of fish in here will be gone soon, I plan on keeping just the tetras and plecos.
After viewing other tank journals (and awaiting additional light fixtures), i'm thinking about redoing the scaping.

why will you rescape, I think yours is lovely? discus need to go though, no sense in raising discus in a planted tank, it will only stunt them. the angels look beautiful!

Thank you jmf3460
i'm getting a new stand for the tank so i'll have to rescape eventually. i'm adding two more finnex fixtures today so i'll be able to grow different plants, this isn't the scape I planned initially so i'll redo it now
