Shrimp ID?

This shrimp looks nothing like my other orange neo shrimp. Can anyone ID it for me? Here are a few pictures from early on when I noticed his color was odd and a few from today.

I'd like to know since I have more orange neos coming in later this week and if this one interbreeds then I'll need to separate him.

Looks like chocolate shrimp in the lower pics and boy that orange is intense in teh first two! TT maybe? (Only a guess since I don't keep tigers right now)

See, that's the thing, it's the same shrimp in all of the above photos! First few pics are from when it was a juvie and now it's a full sized adult.

possible propinqua shrimp mine were bright orange like neos when i got them and about the size of orange neos too but ive had mine for about 2 years now and they are more a brownish orange (would also change when they had eggs) and about twice the size of neo's. if it is propinqua or what ever they call it now then they wont breed in fresh water the larva need salt/brackish to make it to adult hood where they can be moved back to fresh

That's what I was wondering. These were originally labeled "orange bee shrimp" and then the store said that's just what they called them but they were really neos. None of my "orange" shrimp have ever looked the same and none have ever bred. They just kept dying off. I have two "orange neos" left and this one. I've considered moving it to another tank once my new orange neos get here unless it won't pose a problem.

I have an old thread on here somewhere from when I first got these guys that shows what they originally looked like. This odd one is on there too but at the time it appeared slightly reddish in color.

here is a link to my propinqua shrimp and what they look like now they are big and kinda like the color of the last pic you posted. they do or mine do any way tend to get brown/redish when berried from what i noticed. there is also a thread on here about some one trying to breed them and alot of pics in that thread as well. feel free to look around and sorry the pics are not better

That is for sure propinqua or wahtever their new classification is.

The signature marking on the hump is what gives it away. They also change color to a more brownish color during their lifetime. It gets bigger than most fw breeding shrimp but they are a blast to have!

Too bad they don't reproduce in FW easily.

Orange Bees are a very common name for them

It's definitely a propinqua shrimp. They turn brown when ready to breed.

yeah mine are a good 2-2.5 inches long haha i have a pic some where of a male rili riding on the tail of one of my propinqua.

They don't reproduce in fw at all, they are a brackish shrimp that can survive in fresh water, but the larvae are just like Amano larvae, they wash out to see and develop to return to the swamps as juveniles

Thanks for the links! I wonder if all of mine were this kind or not. I'll try to post pics of my remaining two that do appear to be neos just so I can know for sure what I have.

True that, I misspoke. I kinda meant like how once in a blue moon someone finds a juvie amano shrimp in their tank some how. I've heard the same with propinqua on shrimpnow.

My LFS sells them as "orange bee" shrimp too. Fell for it once when I first started keeping shrimp. Eventually gave them to my roomie and they lived or are still alive a few years later.
