46 g bowfront stand question

Hi everyone, trying to get back in to the planted tank hobby

My 46bow sits on the stand that is hollow in the middle, meaning that fishtank is support by the edges only.

I'm a little scared to put 80lbs of substrate and all that water in the tank that has its bottom just suspended in the air.

Any ideas? should it be fine? or do I reinforce it?

Is it a typical glass tank with a plastic rim? or rimless glass, or acrylic?

If it has a plastic rim on the bottom, that is all that needs to be supported. Even if you had a solid platform, the glass wouldn't flex enough to need support in the middle.

If it's acrylic, the entire bottom should be evenly supported (if you are putting it on an open center stand, get a nice chunk of plywood cut to fit, and then you can set the aquarium on that)

I'm not certain about rimless tanks. I would think that they would be fine supported by just the edges, but I'd like to hear from someone with experience on those.

it's tempered glass with the black edge rim .

No problem then. The plastic rim is where you need the support. don't worry about the glass flexing. you're good to go!

Tempered glass in the US is rated above 9,427 PSI. With a rimmed tank, you have little to worry about as far the glass breaking. With the edges falling directly above the load-bearing sides of the stand, you have little to worry about as far the integrity of the stand goes (as long as this isn't a cheapo stand).
