My first bowl
Edit: Update pic
![]() Here is the start of it ![]() It is going to be a place where I can put trimmings and culled shrimp from my other tank I put in soil, then sand, then water. A few minutes later the soil erupted up because there was an air bubble under it so I had to drain it and start again Simple and boring so far but it should develop nicely Last edited by xconverge; 06-17-2012 at 09:44 PM.. |

I will be getting some RCS, my other tank is a 6gallon edge
The bulb is currently what was in the socket, I will be getting one with a different color temp sometime perhaps, seems like this one is really warm |

I have been looking for a lamp like that where did you get it and how big of a bulb can that hold?

from what i can see, youre going to want to get a 9W CFL for that lamp. it loos somewhat smaller than a regular desk lamp. if its a regular size lamp, then get a 13W or 11W CFL around 5000K

I have a 13Watt ~2500K in there now I think. It is a normal size desk lamp
I got it from target, wasn't cheap though $35 I believe I figure having a lamp I like is important as well :p @Newman Why a 9Watt if its a smaller lamp? |

P.S.: How big is the bowl? P.P.S: An exposed bulb so close to water looks kinda scary. I wonder why a lot of people (in fact I think most) on this forum do this kind of stuff. My mom says that there's an electrical hazard by doing this.

the same is true for aquarists with planted tanks, maybe more so considering the lighting. you could do a higher-watt bulb, higher up above the bowl? it's just harder to do, you'd probably have to hang a fixture from the ceiling. |

Not too much going on, some frogbit (maybe?) , and some dwarf sag, waiting for it to grow in a bit. Also swapped in a 13watt 6500k bulb
![]() ![]() ![]() My main tank, ~20 RCS in there now
