Rotala Colorata and Rotala Macandra
So I was going to get these plants in a week or so from a local guy. I currently have a 46g Bow Front with a single bulb 39W Catalina T5HO. Im also running my old t8 25W bulb. I'm injecting co2 and dosing ferts. Will these plants flourish or should I upgrade my light? Was considering a 2 or 3 bulb Catalina t5ho with a plant grow bulb in one of the slots.

In my experience, rotala macrandra is a very demanding plant. Not necessarily difficult, but requires more than most other plants. Even with twoT5HO bulbs and two T5 bulbs in addition to co2 and fertilizers (both macro and micro), mine did not flourish and just stayed alive. The new growth was ugly. It needs a nutrient rich substrate, otherwise the bottom base will die instead of growing roots. Never had experience with Rotala colorata.

I had two T8 shop lights pumping only 2.9 watts/gallon in my 45 gal, the mac grew like a weed. I had mist co2 and EI dosing.
