40B West African Tank
Hi Folks,
I decided about a month ago, to fix up my 40 gallon breeder, which did not handle my move so successfully. Currently I'm battling some hair algae problems, and my once useful Coral Life PC Fixture, is slowly dying. (Plus it was always so noisy, and the fans eventually died.) I had created some South American, Amazon, and reef tanks, so I wanted to try something new, and I settled on a West African biotope after finding some congo tetras at the LFS. I'm planning on keeping the Flourite substrate, adding some larger rocks, and adding more driftwood. For plants, I'm thinking of Anubias nana attached to the wood, some Bolbitis heudelotti, a Nymphaea maculeta, and some Crinum. For fish, I'm thinking of a school of congo tetras, a couple of Synodontis nigriventris, and an elephant nose. Of course, the goal is to eventually create a larger tank with the same theme, but that will be in a few years (I'm thinking 100+ gallons, with lots of congo tetras!) I have updated the lighting with a Kessil A150W, which I'm installing tomorrow, and an RODI unit, since the water here isn't quite so nice. I'll keep you all posted! |

I finally got around to installing the Kessil over the tank. While the light distribution does not lend itself to the current, overgrown aquascape, it will, once the final aquascape is in place. (I'm thinking, a moody look.) I also installed the LifeAquatic Powered RODI unit last night, and flushed a couple gallons through the system. I will flush a couple more tonight, in preparation of performing a 10 gallon water change this weekend.
