Filter for Q-Tank

I have a 40B setup now as Q-Tank.

I also bought a Tetra Whisper EX Filtration System for it, and have 2 sponge filters in it, the ones with the lifters connected to air pump. I have the Tetra filter in the tank to keep the water extra clean, as tank is bare on the bottom since it just Q-Tank, question is do I really need the Tetra filter? I have not opened it yet and can take it back, or will it really help to keep tank clean. I don't want to have to change water to often.

Thanks

Over filtration is always better in a quarantine tank. Allows you more room for media if you need to remove medication and can be used increase flow if necessary.
